Welcome to the Adirondacks
|
Discovery |
| Upstate New York has one of the greatest natural resources
remaining in the USA, one of the largest tracts of unmolested,
primitive land. The Adirondack Park is 6 million acres of virtually
uninterrupted wilderness. In this magnificent park you can find
trees that have survived 100’s of years and lakes that
have never had motor boats driven over them. You can discover
creatures you never knew existed (what’s a Martin?) You
can walk paths made by deer traveling to water spots. You can
spot birds of prey zeroing in on some food. You can discover
things about New York State you never even knew existed. |
Adventure |
| So much of the Adirondack Park remains in a wilderness state,
which means unending possibilities for adventure and excitement.
Imagine discovering a small lake at the end of a quiet path
through the woods, where it seems nobody has set foot for a
very long time. For a weekend, chances are, it might be all
yours, visited only by you or you and your friends. There are
that many miles of wilderness! |
| Or imagine testing your skills on the trails with a map and
a hiking buddy, climbing to the top of one of the High Peaks.
Sleeping in a tent on a spot where perhaps no human has ever
ventured. Listening to the sounds of the forest, experiencing
the complete darkness only a deep forest can create. |
| If thrills are your game, how about hurtling across the rapids
of a raging river in a raft, relying on split-second reaction
times and pure adrenaline to finish your course. White water
rafting is everywhere in the Adirondacks, with outfitting companies
and rafting guides eager to lead you down the river over rapids
and through swift streams. |
| Put your grit to the test by cycling the Adirondacks. Experience
nature up close at a faster pace by cycling from Inn to Inn.
Bed & Breakfasts abound in the Adirondacks, creating oases
of luxury for you after an exhilarating day of cycling. Put
the miles behind you as you whiz down the road toward your destination,
stopping whenever you desire for a picture, and snack, or look
around. Enjoy the freedom of the road and the satisfaction of
a truly great adventure while cycling in one of North America’s
greatest wilderness parks. |
| Picture yourself pulling a record-breaking fish out of the
water! The lakes of the Adirondacks are home to all sorts of
underwater creatures, not to mention the largest Northern Pike
ever caught, right in Sacandaga Lake. That’s world record-breaking
Pike!! |
